SEAL THE DEAL

Harwich STANDers -

The Get on the Bus New York City Amnesty International demonstration tour on Friday, April 11 will NOT be a HHS field trip.

However, if you and your parents decide that you can afford the absence (it would count toward your 20 day limit), then you can join the D-Y group by emailing Mr. Howell at howellj@dy-regional.k12.ma.us by SUNDAY and getting him a $45 check ASAP (see attached document for details).

Alyssa and Hannah went last year and found the experience life altering. The group will be protesting at several locations on behalf of several Amnesty International causes, including the Darfur victims. Security is exceptional as a large police detail will follow the student group from event to event. (see attached document for security details).

We got tentative approval for our Genocide Awareness week events 4/7-4/11 - Hotel Rwanda viewing, date auction, and lunch room lobbying (Thursday we'll set up a table at lunch with a computer and a phone to lobby the White House to implement the Sudan Accountability and Divestment Act (SADA).

We also got the go-ahead for the All-Cape Battle of the Bands on Friday May 2 from 7-9:30. We need to contact the other Cape schools to get their Battle winners or other entry, and start to plan logistics for this event. We should be able to fill the auditorium for it.

Also, NortheastSTAND sent us the following request to call our members of Congress on Monday - get on the Phone!

Take part in the action and ORGANIZE A QUICK CALL IN DAY @ SCHOOL NEXT MONDAY!

Join activists from Coast to Coast this Monday, March 31st by calling 1-800-genocide to urge your representative to approve an additional $334 million to support peacekeeping in Sudan. Help ensure that the U.S. Government Enforces UNAMID now by providing the logistical and financial support we are capable of offering to do our part in ending this genocide and bringing peace to Sudan! Unite your school and community by hosting a call-in meeting for your chapter, table on campus, or partner up with other organizations at your school to see how many calls your chapter can make! To help make your planning easier please see the attached flyer and sample script to pass out on campus and sample email at the bottom of this page to forward on to your members. And check out the action of the week section of our website (standnow.org) now for more details, helpful suggestions and event planning guides!
